Executive Half Year Report – June 2025

The Executive Committee met on three occasions by Zoom teleconference in the first half of 2025. During this period we farewelled Ryan McGrath (Australia) and welcomed new member Ken Miller (USA). The current Executive Committee membership consists of

  • Glenn Ruscoe, Chair (Australia)
  • Sarah Marshall (Canada) – leave of absence
  • Sandra Schiller (Germany)
  • Magda Fourie (South Africa)
  • Cameron MacDonald (USA)
  • Wajida Perveen (Pakistan)
  • Snjezana Schuster (Croatia)
  • Ximena Suárez Bonilla (Mexico/Spain)
  • Esther-Mary D’Arcy (Ireland)
  • Ken Miller (USA)

Twenty articles exploring the history of the profession were published on our website during the first half of the year.  It was record number of articles.

The committee has discussed the traditional male bias in historical writings and given the predominance of females in the physiotherapy profession, resolved to give greater weight to publishing stories about females.

The committee is mindful of next years 75th anniversary of World Physiotherapy and has commenced two projects to help celebrate. The first project is a 75 question quiz about the history of the profession and the second project is to explore the period leading up to the formation of the World Confederation of Physical Therapists, 1943 – 1951. For the second project the IPHA is seeking a London-based member to assist in manually searching the CSP archives at the Wellcome Collection. Please contact us via email at info@history.physio.

The final project planned for the year is to explore the historical leadership of the profession in Latin America. With the next World Physiotherapy Congress planned for Guadalajara, Mexico in 2027 we felt there may be an opportunity to piggyback on raised awareness of the region.

The committee will also be working on updating the links to external resources on our website.
