Arm Table

Synonymous with outpatient hand therapy services, the arm table is one of many simple but functional items in the physiotherapist’s tool belt. Described by manufacturers as a ‘strongly constructed hardwood table made from beech with a Formica top’; the arm table is a lightweight piece of furniture with many functions.

Although traditionally used in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of upper limb conditions and post-operative rehabilitation over the years these tables have adopted multiple functions including; note writing, storing cleaning wipes, and more recently used as a make-shift laptop table with the rapid introduction of digital health care.

Due to the small, portable, and multifunctional nature, the arm table remains a customary part of many physiotherapy departments (even if some are more rickety than when first introduced).
